The ads on the side are funny, for the longest time they were all about vet school and doggie drugs and now it wants to sell me several kinds of sensors (I checked, the Oxygen sensor on the saturn is just fine thank you) and a new camera! I just think its funny what they choose to pull out of our text.
PS. We STILL have only made $.39 on the deal, come on people we have lots off school to pay off! Get clicking!

Ick
For future reference: trying to avoid the awful taste of cough syrup by slamming it down really fast doesn't work if you just end up inhaling it instead. Bleh, that was really gross, and made my coughing way worse than it was to begin with.
I am STILL sick with whatever cold bug I got last week. My poor body just wants sleep, but all I can give it is DayQuil and make it root around in deer carcasses all weekend. Maybe I have bovine tuberculosis. :-/

Interesting weekend

Well, my weekend work for the DNR was sure interesting. I think the nicest deer we got was a 15-point buck that was over 200 pounds. Massive deer! Most people just got yearlings, with a fair number of fawns too. I met more hunters in one weekend than I think I've ever met in my entire life. They were almost all really nice (probably because they were successful... the unsuccessful ones were heading directly into the neighboring liquor store). I did have one old guy refer to me as "girl" (as in, "Yeah, whuddya want, guurrl?"), and got lots of ribbing about our "deer surgery", but it was pretty fun. We had a couple of guys who were anti-DNR and didn't want to have anything to do with us, but that was it. Most people were really interested to see what we were up to. I think everyone's favorite part was when we taught them how to age their deer (check the third premolar!). We collected about 75 samples in all, and I made almost $300. Not bad for one weekend!
Today's anatomy lab exam was harder than the others have been, primarily due to my lack of preparation, but I didn't fail it at least. Tomorrow, I take the lecture portion. Hope it goes okay....
Thursday's ZEAW Club seminar is entitled "Population Research and Ecology of Moose in Northeast MN"... I will teach you everything I learn!
Not much else to say, so here's a funny story that I remembered this weekend:
Earlier this summer, when Winnie was still new here, Chris was roughhousing with her little bit. He picked her up really fast, and must've put pressure on her stomach, because it resulted in her vomiting immediately. I'm pretty sure he was horrified, but I almost died laughing. Winnie was unphased, of course.
Pre election jitters
Well its Nov 6th and that means that election day is tomorrow! Here are my predictions.
The Democrats will pick up 28 seats in the house for a clear majority.
The senate however I fear that it will a pick up of 5, leaving the body split 50/50 with Dick B. Cheney casting the 51st vote.
In Minnesota, Mark Kennedy flamed out a while ago leaving now doubt that Klobuchar has it. I am going to go out on a limb and say that Hatch will win, but by 1-2% only. I don't think Wetterling nor Coleen Rowley can pick up MN-6 and MN-2 respectively. Wetterling had a shot after the Foley scandal but MN-6 is a highly conservative district (57% - 42% Bush in 04') so her even being competitive is a sign of greater national movement away from the Republicans.
Else where it looks like some of my least favorite politicians are getting the boot. Katherine Harris (R-FL) can't go by a week with out getting onto national news for saying something stupid. Actually, can't she just keep on campaigning? Even after its over? She is such good fun! She will loose by 20-30 points though. And Rick Santorum (R-PA) is fried. I will be interested to see how Tester (D-MT) will do. MT politics is a funny mix! Lieberman will go on for another four years, although the big question is, my 50/50 senate guess assumes that he does caucus with the democrats, and I sure don't trust him.
Disturbing voter suppression stories from out east are coming out too. Robo calls that start out saying they are from Democrats but are paid for by the NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee). Not so bad right? The thing is, they call back after you hang up. Again. And again. And again. During dinner. When you are in bed. But people think its from the Democratic canidate because they don't listen to the whole thing that says "paid for by blah blah." How dirty and desperate is that?
So I will probably be up late tomorrow night, waiting for those west cost numbers to come in...

Projector
I am moving forward for my projector project. Right now I have my 4" LCD with back light removed attached to a board and a bright light bulb behind it. Take that with just one double convex lens I have from the physics department and boom there is my projector. I can get in about 90% of the image too! The corners are a bit rounded and the edges are kind of blurry, but besides that it looks great. I am going to toy with different light sources too. If this were a real magic lantern, it would use a kerosene lamp. I am not sure I can do that.. but it would be fun to try! Imagine a TV powered by a flickering lantern... Next stop is to make my own lens. I have been talking to people about this and it seems possible. There is a guy at Carleton, their "instrument" maker (as in science instruments) that has been doing lenses for 30 years! And my friend and former boss Rick is working primarily in glass right now, so he can help too.
I was going to drop over $300 to take a 6 week glass course co-taught by Rick...but it filled up. Dang it!

Sunday
Well today was kind of a funny day that I am not quite sure how to blog about. Beautiful weather on a Sunday before election day was enough to distract me to death. I took a little drive with the sunroof open back into my favorite area and discovered what my car is like on a little bit of gravel + turning + a little speed.
Here is a riddle. Why is it, that sometimes the best way to turn right to spin the wheel left?
That monumental RWD back end breaks loose and I correct into the skid and boom I am drifting around the corner. Weeee! That was fun. Next stop: winter!
So for your youtube enjoyment, I found this sureal add/music video/promo thingie that Volvo made in the late 80s. Gata love the music and the sound effects too. The cars featured are 740s just a year or two before mine. They must be using turbos though - which sadly I do not have. So enjoy the nice non-winter weather and the video too:
